Every year, their income must be evaluated. They must submit their incomes, bank records, job history etc. They attempt to hide some of it in order to get over. Problem is, we do have reports that we can access that will reveal the truth.
Our time is wasted having to go over everything with a fine toothed comb to reveal what they try to hide. And yes, there are a lot of slumlords as well. All they care about is getting the check. The kicker: in my area, the rent limits are very high for Section 8. Therefore, section 8 tenants can afford, big, better apts than your average hard working citizens. White, Hispanic, black, Asian: they all scam or try to. I do have good tenants, however ,very few. I wish I could invite the public to sit at my desk for a week just to see what we go through.
I'm renting a home and have made many improvements, pay my rent early, etc. Because of disability, I qualify for section 8. However, I certainly do not want to live where there is the element of less than desirable people as neighbors.
It is not worth it. My heart goes out to you. Here you are, helping fellow man, renting to section 8, and it has been a frustrating and expensive experience. I'm sorry, you certainly don't deserve it. And it seems that you shouldn't bear the expense; the section 8 board should be able to step in and help. Best of luck, Lori. Rating Not all section 8 tenants bad by: Anonymous Not all section 8 renters are bad.
I do wish they would clean up section 8 houseing weed out the troublemakers make it a more peaceful environment for elderly, disabled and families. The house next door to me is unfortunately owned by a property management company and is constantly occupied by renters.
The last tenants before the current ones were Section 8. I know this because they told me themselves. Anyway all was fine for the first 2 to 3 months they moved in. It was a mom and her 2 school aged kids. Then she began moving in more people until there were 4 more adults and 4 more kids. These kids were absolute brats who screamed, threw mud at my house and threw trash everywhere.
The adults argued, blared music and smoked pot in the back yard constantly. I reported them to Section 8 numerous times with no results, called the cops and CPS. Then they moved out in the middle of the night. Sunflower seeds and trash all over the floor, holes in the walls, broken blinds.
And that was just what we saw in the room we could see in. The property manager came by and said they had warrants and that is why they left and they never paid a dime of their part of the rent. Landlord rented to a very nice family not on Section 8. Rating There is so much misinformation here. NEW by: Anonymous Anyone with experience with Section 8 and knowledge of the legal basis of Section 8 contracts can see that the depiction of Section 8 tenants here is a fabrication consisting of cartoonishly racist caricatures and blatant misinformation.
Section 8 voucher holders work unless permanently disabled sometimes multiple jobs , are not allowed to have felonies on their record, and are not allowed to have unauthorized occupants. These things are WELL investigated. Any violations result in the difficult to obtain vouchers being revoked. I've seen it happen many times. The TRUE problem with Section 8 properties is that all-too-often Section 8 landlords exploit the fact that the Section 8 tenants can't risk losing their vouchers by complaining that the landlords are doing anything that is immoral, unethical, or illegal.
Consequently, Section 8 landlords are free to allow the properties to fall into disrepair and are also free to allow an illicit drug market to operate in their complex, which they profit from in the form of additional cash payments and gifts boats and cars. These kickbacks do not come from Section 8 tenants. They come from tenants with lengthy criminal records that bribe the landlord or property owner.
In normal neighborhoods tenants report crime to law enforcement, preventing a drug market from taking root. Section 8 tenants cannot afford to be identified as "snitches" mortal danger and they also cannot afford to give the landlords an excuse to evict them or frame the Section 8 tenant as a drug user. You read that right. It is often the Section 8 slumlords that invite crime into their properties themselves because they know having a class of powerless renters makes it easier to get away with.
They expect you to believe that it was the Section 8 tenants that didn't maintain the air conditioning units, garbage compactor, gate system, electrical wiring, etc. Conveniently, they start spinning yarns that it was all the Section 8 tenants' doing. Funny how everything thing was cleaned up when I looked at the house sounds to coincidental to me I have constant problems with them trespassing, driving on my property, parking in my yard, being woke up all hours of the night, loud music when his business partners show up.
The landlord doesn't care shes a slumlord who inherited the property's so it easy money for her. Section 8 should be discontinued because they dont check up on people who receive it and leave the problems for everyone else to deal with If your able to run multiple unlicensed or illegal businesses out of your rental your able to get legit jobs and be decent neighbors.
These "animals" as you refer to them and I ain't arguing! They have children with whoever, and lie to the government, claiming that those children are "retarded", so they can "get themselves a check"! If they don't have their own kids, they will "borrow" someone else's! They train the kids to act mentally disabled when inspection time comes around. They say that YOU are the stupid one because "if you was as smart as them, you'd be hustling too! Disabled people would much rather be working!
They really do drive new cars and wear expensive clothes and have brand new iphones and new hairdos every month. They teach their kids to be just as evil and dishonest as they are, so the cycle repeats indefinitely! These people need help, but living rent free next to good, vulnerable people does not seem to be the answer! No one can live on nothing! Decent people will do whatever they can, even if it means collecting cans, or scrap metal, or doing odd jobs, or even babysitting, but no one lives on nothing!
Many Section 8 tenants are good tenants, but many are very bad people who really do act like animals! NEW by: Anonymous i lived in a thriving immigrant village in the 80s. Just last year, I rented to some section 8 tenants. Trust me, life is horrible due to dealing with neighbors, police, city, unimageable destruction of the house.
I would never and ever rent to section 8. Just away. Rating Ableist spoiled brat NEW by: Anonymous It people like you are ableist assholes deserve to starve to death deserve no respect or sympathy assholes like you causing homelessness. You greedy backstabbing fuckers do not realize not everyone born silver spoon in their mouth like you. People like you refuse to help them cause too spoiled have everything handed to you silver platter entire life do not realize you resin we have to be on this.
Rating Section 8 neighbors by: Anonymous These animals moved in next door, and they do nothing but scream all day. They openly fight, stole our garbage can and the replacement for it! There was nothing but peace and silence before them. They're inconsiderate leeches perfectly capable of work.
They don't deserve the suburbs just because "it seems unfair. The son of their home stole his mother's AR! They don't even pay rent, they have vouchers. NEW by: Some of those commenters are racist and don't know better The minute after they move in begins the criminal and destructive activity. All your good tenants will move out and you'll be stuck with the Section 8 animals. They will go dumpster diving and bring in roaches and bed bugs that you will have to pay to eradicate.
You will be getting calls all hours of the night for the noise and criminal activity. These folks didn't have plan in life. And now we are supposed to help them? I think not. Keep them out of our neighborhood. I tried to live with the mostly idiots that are nothing more than trash around my apt. I'm trying hard to move but no one will take a white girl as a tenant. Its a feeling of desperation. I'm clean and quiet and so upset with living around ghetto mindset people.
This is incredibly unfair so I see why it's near impossible to get a place with a voucher. I wish I was able to go back to work but I'm behind the 8 ball. I pay my bills on time and I'm pretty much screwed. Thanks so much to all the disrespectful people who mess things up for good tenants I bought a duplex with section 8 tenants, and both tenants caused me nothing but headache.
When told dogs are not allowed per the lease, she insisted that was her friend's dog. When I refused to change out her carpet one year, the next day she flooded the entire apartment claiming that the toilet malfunctioned. Cops were getting called every month or so, because they were partying and smoking weed in the front yard. She would toss beds and furniture in the yard, and left it up to me to discard. Both tenants threatened to not move out after the 90 days notice unless I helped pay for the moving expenses.
I ended up paying about 2 grand, since the eviction process in California is painful for landlords. Of course, the both units had to be renovated completely. Good Section 8 tenants are few and far between.
Any average search will show you how many problems landlords have with them. Incidentally, the problems are similar in scope and nature wherever your property is located. How many would pass, do you think? We pay taxes to help them - "we" as in people that work every day. I think that unless they are handicapped one way or another, Section 8 and other social program recipients should be required to give back.
Volunteering is one way. I will bet most of those people are on a social services program. Think of society as a barrel that holds "stuff. You never really have to see the bottom Good luck if you rent to the wrong Section 8 person. Bless you is you found a good one. A lot of these tenants are ruthless and care nothing but themselves.
Im out here working on their kitchens and cabinets that have been approved by the county years in advance. Tenants dont pay shit, lets get that squared away. They have no say in any changes that are being done to their unit. Ive had tenants come up to me and start bitching at inspectors making sure everything looks like a 5 star Hotel. These tenants cant even keep their shit clean.
For example, we had just finished installing new cabinets, and this big ass mothafucking monkey comes up and starts throwing a fit saying we cheated him off of 2in from his cabinets.
Not the guys doing the work. The guys doing the work take orders from Section 8. In conclusion, Fuck Section 8. She allows Homeless Drug Addicts off the street to live with her for Drugs. She's an addict, her daughters are addicts and her baby son an addict. Her landlord has been struggling to get her to move out of his property. Damagess to his property is unbelievable to say the least.
Rating Background Check is important! I made it absolutely clear what is expected and what isn't. Race is unimportant. I haven't had any problems with section 8 tenants. All of them are working class citizens. I simply chose wisely. I definitely did check credit scores, background, face to face interaction, etc All you disgruntled people need to take a realistic approach to ANY prospective section 8 tenants especially. Do your homework beforehand. You do NOT get more money per child.
Overseas does have potential for more money if you receive COLA. Events that provide free food for military members because they have chosen to serve our country deserve to be rewarded. Military is not equivalent to welfare because every day we serve our country.
Which is sad, more waste of life. Rating Section 8 Tenants are Scum NEW by: Anonymous I work, and I bought my house 13 years ago in a working class neighborhood in Hagerstown Maryland, now that the neighborhood has gone to shit because of section 8 scumbag single mothers with 9 kids moving in, I can't sell my house and I can't leave. Garbage everywhere and loud ghetto ass nasty people with 19 unsupervised dirty ass children yelling and screaming all hours of the day and night.
Nasty, dirty neighbors throw their trash in your yard and keep you up at night, because of course, they don't have to go to work in the morning. They just sit around all day and collect food stamps and handouts. Fuck you, you garbage ass piece of shit lazy ass trash bitch and your brood of 9 kids, uncle, aunt and their kids and whoever else you have in and out of "your" house day and night. Feel free to continue to chuck your Newport butts all over my yard. You're a protected class.
I guess you deserve a handout because your grandparents great great grandparents were slaves fucking years ago. That and you spread your legs and let 19 different deadbeat dudes bust a nut in your dirty disgusting pussy with no rubber. That should be reason enough for everyone else to pay your way.
If I was you I'd kill myself you worthless piece of fucking trash. As a homeowner I'm disgusted!!! Why are they allowed to get away with all of this while homeowners like myself who do not have the luxury of having the government pay my housing It ought to be banned for those who abuse it!!!!! I seen this first hand.
I was on section 8 for 10 years I'm sick and tired of lazy human beings! You see these folks with more than who should be living there on the lease and the owners don't live in the neighborhoods where they purchase, flip and rent properties. The homes become drug and gang ravaged. The police departments and village personnel don't care, because the majority of them too, do not live in the community.
We are in a losing battle, we are moving and have been in our location for 20 years! The entire city has become a rental haven. I hope it gets so bad, once we're gone that the police no longer feel safe policing, and then their tune will change. Section 8 is safer then renting out to any average Joe. If they miss their payment I am allowed to evict them just like any other tenant, even if section 8 paid their portion.
The tenant will lose their benefits if they are evicted. My property is Expected to be at certain standards, and is inspected yearly. I could have the same issues with regular renters and section 8.
I think section 8 is a little but safer because I'm guaranteed partial payment vs. I can still evict over any lease breakage, overcrowding, property damage, rent, ect.
I hope they destroyed your house! It only took one bad experience for me to know this section 8 program is was not for me. Initial inspection OK except for minor infractions, which were easily remedied. Then each year inspections included damages that tenants obviously caused. HUD inspectors failed - I was to replace all closet doors torn down and damaged by tenants to pass the inspection.
You could not even walk through the house - so much junk, clothes strewn everywhere! Dangerous - fire hazard, they had extension cords every where. Tenants would not use the built in heat - used space heaters and extension cords which were dangerous. I installed new replacement windows - due to inspection failure - they never cleaned windows inside or out , nailed though the window frames to mount Christmas lights and taped and painted windows.
Wore out and scared the floors with 3 children's riding toys and strollers. A real nightmare! Pets Pit Bulls and untrained puppies against No pet policy. So much more! HUD seemed to always blame me for the damages! I will never rent to HUD or Section 8 tenants again! I will not be renting my house again. For the most these people care nothing for your property. In others, over , apply. Local housing authorities are often overwhelmed with the number of applicants and the limited number of vouchers available.
Because of this, many public housing agencies PHAs have long housing assistance waiting lists and others close their applications completely, sometimes for years. Households receiving Section 8 housing benefits do not have a limit on their length of stay in the program or their subsidized housing. Families can stay indefinitely if they continue to qualify, especially those with extremely low incomes. However, most families do not stay in the program longer than six years.
Those who hold a Housing Choice Voucher stay an average of 6. However, in the history of Section 8 , the length of stay in low-income housing has been steadily increasing since This is mostly due to rising housing costs and stagnating incomes rather than the actions of household members themselves. Both the tenant-based Housing Choice Voucher Program and the project-based program implementation permit households of many sizes into the program.
A household can consist of one person or 10, although different calculations are used to determine the need for families that have more than eight members. Despite the ability of Section 8 rentals to accommodate many family sizes, most eligible families only have an average of two members.
For a family of more than one person, this often defines the household as extremely low-income. Households in affordable housing often struggle with finances in other areas of their lives and therefore apply to other state or federal benefits programs. However, many families do not actually receive or are eligible or multiple benefits even if they qualify for a Section 8 housing voucher. However, households with children are more likely to receive at least one other government benefit.
